Humidity Control
Most homes experience great changes in humidity as the seasons change in our region of  the country.  When the humidity goes up, the piano (made mostly of wood) absorbs the moisture and expands.  When the humidity goes down (in the winter) the wood contracts.  This results in an unstable tuning, causing the piano to go out of regulation.  In addition, high and low humidity can damage the soundboard (cracks in the soundboard), the strings (strings can rust and weaken) and damage other parts of the piano.  Proper placement of the piano in the home, and running a humidifier (winter) and a dehumidifier (summer) can help.  However, greater humidity control is needed in most situations.  I am a field expert for Dampp-Chaser Life Saver humidity control systems that can be installed in your piano.  These systems control the humidity in your piano, 24 hours a day and results in a more stable tuning and protects the piano from the results of low/high humidity.
